Women were undeniably instrumental in the fight to protect ancient forests during the Timber Wars, yet historians and movement scholars have overlooked their contributions. As part of the Sustainable Futures Speaker Series, this panel will explore women’s contributions and highlight the confluence of feminism and eco-defense in past and present struggles to save the redwoods. Let’s Talk about the Middle East, March 7. 

Free film showing (“Born in Deir Yassin”) and discussion led by Dr. Leena Dallasheh at the Richard’s Goat Miniplex (401 I Street, Arcata). Thursday, March 7, 5:30 p.m. On the night of April 9, 1948, Deir Yassin, a Palestinian village on the outskirts of Jerusalem, was attacked by the Stern Gang and Irgun. They proceeded to commit a massacre that has left a huge mark in the history of the conflict. This film tells the story of the village in its various incarnations, including interviewing some of those who were directly involved in the massacre and its aftermath. See the Facebook event here.
