  2. Student member sought for dean search committee. The search process for the permanent Dean of Humboldt’s College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS) will begin shortly. The University is currently looking for a student of the college to sit on the CAHSS Dean Search Committee. The selected student will work with several faculty to help screen, interview and select a candidate as the next CAHSS Dean. Search Committee Meetings should begin in late August, with four meetings preceding interviews with candidates. Any interested students should complete the Student Representative Search Form to request an appointment. The committee is hoping to make a selection in the next few weeks. Questions?   3. Student member sought for university space committee. The University Space & Facilities Advisory Committee (USFAC) is looking to fill the vacant student seat for AY 21-22. Current students are invited to apply for the seat if interested in dynamics, decision-making, and communications about space at Humboldt. The position is available to any student at large, and interested people should apply through Associated Students. This is a great opportunity for students to get experience/practice in a public governance role. Find information and details on how to apply here.   4. Campus/Community Dialogue on Race class. Students can earn a unit of credit in ES 480! The Dialogue will take place during Week 10 -- Oct. 25-29 – and this year's theme is Dismantle & Heal: Building Coalition Against Forced Division. Our CDOR Keynote Speakers will be Satsuki Ina on October 27 and Hari Kondabolu on October 28. Details here.

Y.E.S. volunteer opportunities, Sept. 1 open house. Youth Educational Services (Y.E.S.) is ready to connect Humboldt students to a variety of virtual volunteer projects with local schools and community sites. Many of our students express that joining Y.E.S. was central to their retention at Humboldt and helped them develop valuable skills that have assisted in their career paths. The first step is to submit a Volunteer Interest and Application form, available on the Y.E.S. website. Then, by the 9/6/21 deadline: 1) Register for the Y.E.S. 1-unit course (Issues in Community Volunteering); or 2) Participate through a service learning or academic internship course (SLAI), or SW course fulfilling their field placement through a Y.E.S. program. 
  6. Writing Studio resources. The Humboldt Writing Studio, a program of the Learning Center, offers free writing support for Humboldt students. The Writing Studio opens online on Monday, August 30. Trained Writing Consultants from a range of majors provide consultations (via Zoom or email) on all types of writing projects. They can help with: getting started on a writing project, incorporating and analyzing sources, organizing arguments and linking ideas, using academic voice and style, improving grammar and punctuation, and much more.
