NEWS FOR HISTORY STUDENTS -- 12-7-2020

  1. History Internship Opportunities. History majors at Humboldt have the opportunity to earn one unit of practicum credit for completing a historical internship involving 45 hours of work with an approved organization. This is an excellent way to get hands-on experience for graduate school or any number of careers. See the attached information sheet, including information about some current internships. Students have also created their own internship opportunities. If interested, sign up for HIST 482: Internship in History and contact Prof. Suzanne Pasztor (sp49@humboldt.edu) for more information.
  2. Capital Fellows Program. Attention seniors: The Capital Fellows Programs are recruiting for their 2021-2022 class. These are post-baccalaureate programs administered by the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento, and are an opportunity for college graduates to engage in public service and prepare for future careers. Fellows work 10-11 months as full-time staff members in the California State Assembly, California State Senate, California Executive Branch or the California Judiciary. They participate in policymaking, program development, and program implementation. Fellows gain first-hand experience in the governance and leadership of California and receive: monthly stipend of $2,964;medical, dental and vision benefits; student loan deferments; and 6 graduate credits in Political Science or Public Policy and Administration and a graduate certificate in Applied Policy and Government from Sacramento State. Prospective Capital Fellows must have a bachelor’s degree (in any major) and a demonstrated interest in California state government and public policy.   3. IdeaFest Journal submissions due Dec. 23. IdeaFest Journal is an annual, peer-reviewed journal that showcases the work of faculty, staff, and students at Cal Poly Humboldt. The journal is an outgrowth of Cal Poly Humboldt’s IdeaFest, a day-long event which celebrates the collaborative research and creative projects of faculty and students from across campus. The journal is open to all members of the Cal Poly Humboldt community, regardless of involvement in ideaFest events. The deadline for submission is December 23, 2020. See here for details.
  4. Writing tutor available. Want an extra set of eyes to review your papers? Make an appointment with History Department writing tutor and History major Emily Gilbow! She's available to meet Monday through Thursday from 10am-4pm, and can assist with paper structure, grammar, proofing, etc. Email her at etg9@humboldt.edu to determine a mutually agreeable time to meet via Zoom.
