1. Writing Studio positions. The Humboldt Writing Studio is looking for strong writers who enjoy helping others develop as writers, readers, and critical thinkers. Two types of positions are available: Writing Studio Consultants work one-on-one, in small groups, and online with Humboldt students on writing projects in any subject area; Writing Studio Fellows work with first-year students enrolled in the Creando Raíces (Creating Roots) Learning Community or the Teachers 4 Social Justice Learning Community. Positions start in August. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom. Applicants must have completed or plan to complete ENGL 450: Tutoring Developing Writers (2-unit course). Apply through the Humboldt Learning Center website by 3 pm on May 7 (this is an extension of the posted priority deadline of May 1). See the attached informational sheet for more details.
2. State Historian I examination. The application deadline for the State Historian I Civil Service Exam is May 26. This is for the entry-level Historian classification that the California State Parks Department uses to hire permanent staff. As an entry level classification, both paid and unpaid experience and graduate work can count toward the one-year experience qualification. This exam is now online with no personal interview requirement. The Department hopes to hire from 8 to 12 permanent State Historians over the next two years in positions throughout the California State Park system. Only candidates who have passed this exam will be allowed to apply for one of those permanent positions. See the attached information sheets for more details about this process. 
3. Online certificate in Digital Public Humanities. The Department of History and Art History at George Mason University, in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, has created a fully online Graduate Certificate in Digital Public Humanities.  The program trains students in the digital skills and tools that are increasingly essential to careers in education, public history, libraries, publishing and many kinds of government and non-profit work.  This 15-credit program consists of three online courses followed by a remote internship with a unit of the Smithsonian Institution.  Because it is both online and part-time, students can pursue it while working or attending another graduate program.
